Following his high school education, Harold honorably served our country as a member of the United States Army in Vietnam.
Prior to his retirement in 1994, Harold was employed by Ameritech.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, St. Francis Catholic Church and the Eagles.
He enjoyed wood crafting, bowling, hunting, fishing and gardening, but most importantly, he enjoyed the time spent with his family.
Harold is survived by his wife, the former Carole R. Steffes, whom he married on Aug. 19, 1967, in Traverse City; by his sons, Charles A. (Deborah) Canfield and Randy (April Parsons) Canfield, of Traverse City; his grandchildren, Isabella, Spencer and Reece; his sisters, Helen Wisniewski, of Traverse City, Margaret (Bill) Rackow, of Buckley, and Elaine (Joe) Flees; brother, Arthur (Janet) Canfield, all of Traverse City; his brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Loreen Steffes, of Traverse City; along with nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Harold will take place at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today, April 21, from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, at the funeral home, with Deacon Rene Hoenscheid officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens with military rites provided by the Honor Guard of Cherryland VFW Post 2780.
Harold had asked that he be remembered through memorial contributions to Munson Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
