RICHARD I. FINNERTY, 59 Columbia Cross Roads, PA is now at peace with God after a four year courageous battle with Leukemia. He passed away January 7, 1998. He touched many hearts and souls and he loved each and everyone. Mr. Finnerty was very active in the Columbia Cross Roads United Methodist Church and the Sylvania Lions Club, receiving the Melvin Jones Award; was owner and operator of the Finnerty's Garage, Columbia Cross Roads, from 1970 to 1993 and served with the US Army. His Hobby was stock car racing which started about 1959 through 1994. He built his own cars, drove for others, and worked on get crews for the Busch Grand National Circuit. Surviving are his wife Sharon (Duart) Finnerty, Columbia Cross Roads; sons, Jason R. Finnerty and Chard A. Finnerty, both of Columbia Cross Roads; father, James W. Finnerty, Columbia Cross Roads, sister, Shirley (Ronald) Mix, Canton; brother, James (Mary) Finnerty, Billings, MT; mother-in-law, Maude Duart, Troy; brother-in-law, David H. (Helen) Duart, Tavares Lake, FL, sisters-in-law, Janice D. Wright, Patricia D. (M. Alan) Knights, Jeanne M. Duart, all of Troy; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth I. Finnerty, December 19, 1997, sister, Ada Marie Finnerty; father-in-law, Dean Duart; brothers-in-law, Thomas D. Duart, C. Robert Wright. Funeral services were held at the Columbia Cross Roads Church, January 10 with Pastor Mark Brower, and Rev. Dr. Ed Thigpen officiating. Burial was in Windfall Cemetery. Pallbearers were Keith Seymour, Wilber Cronk, John Judson, Scott Harkness, Harold "Lefty" Garrison and Don Murray. Memorials may be directed to the Columbia Cross Roads United Methodist Church, RR #3, Box 457 Troy, PA or the Sylvania Lions Club, PO Box 5, Sylvania, PA.
