LLOYD A. CARL, SR., 84, Ithaca, NY, and formerly of Canton area passed away February 18, 2004 at the Lakeside Nursing Home in Ithaca. Born on October 8, 1919 in Canton he was a son of the late Clarence and Eva (Wheeler) Carl. Mr. Carl was a proud Veteran of WWII serving in Europe with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. Known as a kind-hearted man, he believed in treating everyone with respect. He possessed a strong work ethic all through life. He was employed with the Pennsylvania Railroad for over 39 years until retiring in 1981. Mr. Carl cherished his family, especially times spent with his grandchildren. He had a great appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying hunting, gardening, camping and was an avid reader. Surviving are his beloved wife, Edna (Jackson Carl, Ithaca; sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd Jr. and Carole Carl, Granville Summit and Thomas and Ann Carl, LeRoy; a daughter and son-in-law Caroline and Ralph Foulkrod, Troy; step-children and their spouses, June and Dough Voorhees, Burdett, NY; Stephen and Cecelia Fleet, Newfield, NY; Ann Swartwood; Robert and Dorothy Fleet, all of Ithaca; Simeon and Polly Jackson, Grover; Roger Bullivant, Hilton, NY; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Susan Garey, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Carl was predeceased by his first wife, Eva (Freeman) Carl; a stepdaughter, Janet Bullivant, step son-in-law, Lynn Swartwood. The funeral and committal was held February 23, with the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating at the Pepper funeral Home, Canton. Burial was in Windfall Cemetery.
