Emelie was born at Union Corners, Oxford Twp., Erie Co., Ohio, the second child and eldest daughter of William and Caroline (Ohr) Scheid.
On November 8, 1881, she married Daniel Heyman. They purchased a 166 acre farm near Hunt's Corners where they established their home. They were the parents of eight children:
