He served in the 58th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division.

Joined the Army in Philadelphia July 28, 1917. Inducted at Gettysburg, PA on the 31st. Promoted to Pvt 1st Class on January 5, 1918, to Corporal on April 1. Served overseas from May 11 to October 6, 1918. Promoted to Sergeant on September 14, 1918, about 3 weeks before he was killed in action.
