"He was killed June 5, 1863 during the Battle of Vicksburg.......as can be proved by his Civil War Record, which can be found in the Mississippi Archives......it is true in that a stray bullet from the Union lines killed him, during the celebration that the battle in that area was over.

Corporal, Company C, 7th Battalion Mississippi Infantry
Enlisted 5/12/1862 at Quitman, MS
Listed as sent to hospital on Sept/Oct 1862 muster roll
Listed as deserted 9/15/1862 on Nov/Dec 1862 muster roll
Listed as present on Jan/Feb 1863 muster roll
On Jun 30 to Oct 31 1863 muster roll, listed as Private, and listed as 'Died'
