Maudie Celia White Hopkins of Lexa, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2008 in Helena. She was 93 years old. Maudie was born December 7, 1914 in Baxter County, Arkansas, to the late Theodore Acklin and the late Ethel Berry Acklin. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Lexa Baptist Church.
Maudie is survived by two daughters, Ida Mae Chamness and husband, Fred, of Manassas, Virginia, and Opal Byrd and husband, Robert, of West Helena; a son, Melvin Lee White and wife, Shirley, of West Helena; sisters, Lucille White of Calico Rock, Arkansas and Nora Sinnerman of Lone Rock, Arkansas; brother, John Acklin of Lone Rock, Arkansas; grandsons, Gary Chamness, Roger Chamness, Robert D. Byrd and Brian White; granddaughters, Brenda Benett and Donna Holt; fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Maudie was preceded in death by her first husband, former Confederate soldier, William Cantrell; and husband, Winfred White.
Visitation: Tuesday August 19, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, Arkansas, (870) 572-2571..
Graveside services: Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena. Reverend Tommy Jacobs will officiate.
