Pfc. Harvey Houdyshell Killed, In Accident

Pfc. Harvey Houdyshell, 137th Infantry, 35th Division, stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama, died as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident near Eufaula, Alabama, at about 10:15 p.m. November 6, 1943, according to a telegram received yesterday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Houdyshell, formerly of Marion but now living in Herington. No further details are known. He was the youngest of four sons in the service.
Funeral services will be held in Marion, but no arrangements have been made pending further word from the camp as to when the body will be expected. The Harris Funeral Home is in charge.
Pfc. Houdyshell was born June 19, 1920, in the Youngtown community, the youngest of five children. The family moved to Marion in 1936 and Harvey worked on the Loveless ice wagon until his entry into military service in December, 1940.
Two brothers, Pfc. Walter Houdyshell and Cpl. Dave Houdyshell, who are also stationed at Camp Rucker, came home Tuesday night. The third brother, George F 2/c, is stationed at Farragut, Idaho. Mrs. William Berg, a sister, Mrs. Henry Fisch, an aunt, Mrs. Phillip Hagan, grandmother, and Miss Josephine Fisch, a cousin, all of Lamar, Missouri, arrived Tuesday.

A Marion boy, one of the first to go into service, who went with the National Guard unit, was killed in Alabama. Pfc. Harvey Houdyshell died as the result of an auto accident. He was stationed at Camp Rucker. He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Houdyshell, now living at Herington. 3 surviving brothers are in the service: Pfc Walter Houdyshell, Cpl. Dave Houdyshell, also of Rucker; and 2/c George Houdyshell at Farragut, Idaho.
