MARY ELWOOD HACKETT April 3, 1905 – August 6, 1906 The reaper of death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.K. Hackett, of Still Pond, for the first time last Sunday afternoon at half past three and claimed for its own their pet – their baby Mary Elwood, aged one year, four months and three days. This little one was a great pet. She was dearly loved by the entire family. Her oldest sister, Alice, a popular and loved young lady of Still Pond was a second mother to it, as the best part of her time was spent with it. The only consolation that can be expected by the family is the she is "Safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe on his gentle breast." And that she has only gone on before to that house where there is no more suffering or pain, to meet them when their journey of life is o'ver. The family have the love and sympathy of the entire community. A Friend A bud the gardener gave us, a pure and lovely child… he gave it to our keeping, to cherish undefiled. But just as it was opening… to the glory of the day, down came our heavenly gardener… and took our bud away. Another little lamb is gone, to dwell with him who gave…another little darling babe, sheltered in the grave. God needed one more angel Amidst his shining band…and so he bent with loving smiles and clasped our darlings hand. Joshua & Ella Thomas Rock Hall, Kent County, Md. The little crib is empty now, the little clothes laid by…a Mother's hope, a Father's joy in death's cold arm doth lie. Go little pilgrim to thy home, on yonder blissful shore…we miss thee here but soon will come where thou hast gone. Day by day I saw her fade and slowly sink away. Yet in my heart I often prayed that she might longer stay. Her Parents Text obtained from newspaper clippings transcribed from The Hackett Family Bible
