J. M. Cross
John Monroe Cross, employee of the Columbus Air Force Base, was killed early Saturday morning, April 24, in a wreck which occurred on Highway 45 about seven miles north of Columbus, He was 65.
Mr. Cross, who was born in Montgomery County, worked in the Water Department at the base where he had been employed two years. He was a member of the Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
Services were held at the Baptist Tabernacle Church in Winona Sunday afternoon, April 25 at three o'clock with the Rev. Jack Cross of Carthage officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Oliver Funeral Home.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ethel Mae Wright Cross of Steen; three daughters, Mrs. Woodie D. Milstead and Mrs. Bennie Carmein, both of Memphis and Mrs. Paul Sanders, Tupelo; two sons, Dennis Cross, Columbus and W. T. Cross, Panama City, Fla., one sister, Mrs. G .L. Garner, Winona; two brothers, W. L. Cross and J. C. Cross, both of Winona; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Russell Garner, Emel Garner, Barksdale Garner, Donald Cross and Barry Cross.
