ALBANY — Zenoia Haynes-Cheevers, 86, accepted the Lord's hand at her home on Thursday, April 13,2006.
Mrs. Cheevers was born September 14, 1919 in Warrenton, GA. Her parents were the late Girrard and Rosa Haynes, proprietors of the G.L. Haynes Funeral Home in Warrenton, GA. Mrs. Cheevers was the only girl out of five children; all of who are now deceased. She married the late Dr. Joseph P. Cheevers local dentist in 1940. Prior to her marriage, she taught at the Rockdale High School in Camilla, Georgia. She attended the renowned Haynes Institute, a private boarding school in Augusta, Georgia, from sixth through twelfth grades. She was a college graduate of Fort Valley State College (University) and attended Tennessee State University, and Paine College. From this union two daughters were born; Dr. Sandra Cheevers (Daniel Kidd) local pediatrician, and Dr. Tanya Cheevers (Kennon Woods) Family Practitioner/Psychiatrist Raleigh North Carolina.
Mrs. Cheevers was very active in the Albany Georgia Community. She participated in a number of both religious and civic community based organizations and projects. She was a member of the Semper Fidelis Civic Club for over 60 years, as well as the Nine O' Clock social club. She has served as a past President of the Georgia Dental Society's wives auxiliary and was a member of the Silhouettes, the wives auxiliary to the Kappay Alpha Psi Fraternity. Her church home for over 60 years has been Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she was a member of the Richard Allen Choir, chair person of the Birth Month Club, Junior Auxiliary, and many other committees.
In addition to her two daughters, Mrs. Cheevers is survived by four grandchildren, Stephanie Zenola, Kennon, Whitney, and Morgan; three great-grandchildren, Deja Maria a Aaron Douglas (Stephanie) and Kennyshia (Kennon); three sisters-in-law, Minnie Haynes (Edward) of Jersey City, NJ, Elizabeth Haynes (Alexander), of Warrenton, GA, and Lillian Cheevers (Samuel) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 11 a.m. Wednesday, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
