The family moved to Bartholomew County, Indiana in c1830, traveling through western Kentucky, crossing the Ohio River at Madison, then passing through Columbus to St. Louis, Bartholomew County, Indiana, arriving six week before Christmas. They remained in an abandoned cabin for the winter, then moved to Hope in the early Spring of 1831. John walked to Indianapolis to purchase his farm. In 1838, after selling his farm, he moved his family to the south edge of the Village of Hope (corner of Jackson and Main). John and Rebecca were the parents of two known children, namely:
1. Amanda Lavinia (listed as Levinia on her tombstone) Leinbach Rominger (1818-1904)
2. Solomon Shepherd Leinbach (1821-1905).
John was a cooper. Rebecca died of milk sickness and John remarried to the widow Salome Essex Reich (1802-1885), widow of Silas Reich on 12 May 1850 at Bartholomew County, Indiana.
