JOHN T. MOOSE, a citrus grower for 36 years and active in several agricultural organizations, died Wednesday. He was 82.
Mr. Moose, born in Pulaski, Tenn., moved to Fort Pierce in 1948 after receiving a bachelor's degree in agriculture and citrus production from the University of Florida.
He retired as president and general manager of Hobe Groves in Hobe Sound in 1984.
He previously worked for several citrus growers, including Deerfield Groves, W.R. Grace Co., Fort Pierce Cooperative and Adams Citrus.
He started groves on O.L. Peacock's ranch, now part of Port St. Lucie.
He served as chairman of the boards of the farm bureau and the soil conservation service, and was a director of the Indian River Citrus League.
He was also on the advisory board for Ocean Spray Citrus.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a son, Stephen, of Fort Pierce; a stepdaughter, Julie Gifford of Port St. Lucie; and a stepson, Thomas Dimmett of White City.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. Monday at Yates Funeral Home and Crematory, Fort Pierce.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
