Buford E. Long, 74, of Wauchula, died Friday, September 1, 2006, at his home in Wauchula.
He was born Dec. 14, 1931, to Marvin E. and Minnie Bell (Pooser) Long in Lake Wales and moved to Wauchula from Lake Wales in 1959. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Wauchula.
He was a graduate of the University of Florida. In Wauchula, he was the founder and owner of Buford Long Equipment until 1985. He was then owner and operator of Buford Long Citrus. He was past president of Pinecrest Country Club; chairman of the Board of First National Bank of Wauchula. He was a charter member of the Bull Gator Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sammie Wright Long, of Wauchula; two sons, Buford E. Long Jr. and Holly, of Leesburg, and Brian E. Long, of Ft. Pierce; two daughters, Katherine Glasser and Gregg of Davie and Karla Long of Los Angeles, Calif; one sister, Frances Anderson of Peoria, Ariz.; two sister-in-law, Nancy Ingram and Bud; Martha Wright and Taylor; one nephew, Jason Turner and Paige; two nieces, Emily Grace and Lauralee Turner; and four grandchildren, Brian E. Long Jr., Leah Long, Alicia Glasser and Kari Glasser.
Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Wauchula with Father Jack Roberts Jr. officiating. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Avon Park.

Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend.
