Professional football player. After graduating from Chico High School, Gerry Russell Conlee went to St. Mary's in California. He played center and linebacker for numerous pro football teams in the NFL, Pacific Coast Football League, and All America Football Conference. In the NFL, he played for the Cleveland Rams in 1938 and Detroit Lions in 1943. In the AAFC, he played for the San Francisco 49ers in 1946 and 1947. In the PCFL, he played for the San Francisco Packers in 1942, Los Angeles Bulldogs in 1943, and Hollywood Bears in 1945. He had his nose broken fourteen times, several teeth knocked out, and almost had his left eye put out by a player who straight armed him. In his two years in the NFL, he played in eighteen games with one kick return and an interception to his credit. After his playing years ended, he was a claims adjuster superintendent for State Farm Insurance.
