Douglas was a Staff Sergeant with the USAAF, 389th Bomb Group, 566th Bomb Squadron, stationed in England. He was a nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He was KIA from a mid-air collision. Douglas was survived by his wife, Lois Dawson Brewer, and his father, Luther M. Brewer. Douglas received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart and WWII Victory Medal.
