Norman Dale Marit, 73, of Litchfield, formerly of Coffeen, died Tues., Dec. 27, 2011 at 2:17 p.m. in St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. He was born on Sept. 8, 1938 in Walshville, IL, a son of Wesley L. & Ruby Faye (Logsdon) Marit. He graduated from Litchfield High School & was a veteran of the U.S. Army & served during peacetime. He was a Coal Miner for a total of 30 years at both Consolidated Coal in Coffeen & Freeman United Coal Co. in Farmersville & retired in 2000. He was a member of UMWA. He had also worked for Litchfield Creamery Co Milnot & GM&O Railroad. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening & doing yardwork. He married Brenda Sue Shepherd on Aug. 27, 1966 in St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield. She survives. He is also survived by:

2 grandchildren, Joshua D. (Laura) Fleming of Coffeen
Shayla D. Fleming of Hillsboro
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Donald Marit in Vietnam on Sept. 8, 1964 & Kenneth Marit; an infant sister, Betty Marit
