Paul Francis Meyer, 87, of Litchfield, died Sun., Jan. 13, 2013 at 1:50 p.m. in Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Litchfield. He was born on June 18, 1925 in Evansville, IL, a son of Herbert J. & Anna C. (Birk) Meyer, Sr. He graduated from Sparta High School with the Class of 1943. Mr. Meyer was a U.S. Navy veteran & served from Oct. 13, 1943 – Apr. 16, 1946. He was stationed in New Caledonia during WWII and served as radioman. He then attended Cranford College of Watchmaking in San Antonio, TX under the G.I. Bill. He worked at Swingle Jewelry in Hillsboro with his uncle, O.J. Meyer, as a watchmaker. Paul was still in the Navy Reserves and was called back to active duty to serve once again during the Korean War. He served as radioman 2nd Class aboard the destroyer USS Frank E. Evans from June 6, 1951 – Sept. 28, 1952. He later worked at Pfolsgrof Jewelers in Litchfield for 15 years & H. Post & Son in Decatur for 2 years. After moving back to Litchfield, he opened Paul's Watch Repair on July 4, 1969 and retired in April 2005. He was a 50 year member of Knights of Columbus #699 & Moose Lodge #1634, both in Litchfield. He was also a member of American Legion Post #436, VFW Post #3912, & Holy Family Parish, all in Litchfield. He served as South Litchfield Twp Supervisor from 1981-1993. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening. He married Mary Katherine Hilger on May 21, 1955. She survives. He is also survived by:

Funeral Mass will be said Thurs., Jan. 17, 2013 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. Very Rev. James L. Neuman, V.F. will preside. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m.
