His maternal grandparents were Robert W. and Emma Barnes Ray . Jesse Elvin Estes' siblings were Carter Estes , Robert Carl Estes , Louise Estes Alexander , Lorraine Estes Scott , Lois Estes Hankins , and James D. Hill . During World War II Jesse E. Estes was a soldier in the 17th Airborne Division, 3rd Battalion , I Company, 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army having the rank of Technician 4th Class . Jesse Elvin Estes was killed in action on Feb. 7, 1945 . As a result of his valiant action in battle the Award of Purple Heart was added to his service record and his name was added to the World War II Honor Roll of Soldiers from Mississippi . Jesse E. Estes ( service # 7080651 ) was buried among many other U.S. gallant soldiers in the Ardennes American Cemetery in Belgium .
