Daryle Black was a City Police Officer in Long Beach California for 6 years, though had 10 years total of law enforcement experience. He died in the line of duty at age 33. Him and his partner was ambushed. They were part of a anti-gang unit and were driving an unmarked squad car. Their car was struck by gunfire, both officers were shot. Neither was able to return fire. Officer Black's partner was able to call for assistance in spite of being wounded. Both Officers were rushed to a local hospital, where Officer Black died an hour later. The suspect was arrested two days after being identified through an investigation. The suspect went through two trials. On his second trial, he was found guilty and sentenced to death.
