Lavon A. Haaland, beloved wife of the late Erlen Haaland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at her home in Charlotte, NC. She resided previously for 53 years in Charleston, WV.
Lavon was born on February 18, 1933 in Lake City, South Dakota, in 1958 she moved to Charleston, WV with her husband and family.
After raising her children, she was an officer at Charleston National Bank and was instrumental in the start up of BankAmericard Visa card.
After retiring from the bank, she opened her gift shop, LaGiftque on Capitol Street and also owned several other retail shops over the years.
Lavon was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church and will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family was of the upmost importance to Lavon and her home was always filled with home cooking and love.
She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Fitting; her mother, Ruby Bahr; her loving husband Erlen (Dutch) Haaland; and her son-in-law Martino Messana.
She is survived by her children Diane Arent (Charles) of Charlotte, NC, Alan Haaland (Wanda) of Vero Beach, Fl, Janet Messana of South Charleston, WV and Donald Haaland (Robin) of Charleston, WV. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, David, Danielle, Tara, Dane, Stephanie, Aaron, Megan, Chelsea and Cammeo; eleven great-grand children, Morgan, Donovan, Aurora, Brice, Elijah, Kaitlyn, Lexie, Zackary, Alison, Sadie and McLane; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family wishes to thank Levine Cancer Center, the nurses at CMC and everyone involved with the loving care she received from Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte, NC.
Family and friends may visit from 7pm to 9pm, Friday, August 2, 2013 at Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston, WV. There will be an interment at 1pm on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the mausoleum in Sunset Memorial Park of South Charleston, WV, with Rev. Rafe L. Allison officiating.
