ISAIAH SHOT BY A SHARPSHOOTER
On Sunday morning, Isaiah had a few minutes to rest. He sat in front of his tent, allowing the sun to warm his weary body.
The battles had been difficult, especially seeing many of his comrades give the ultimate sacrifice.
The next siege would be the battle of Petersburg. One that would prove to be a long and bloody fight.
As he enjoys his rest, reading his Bible, a sharpshooter takes his life.
God waits for you. Rest, my weary soldier, rest.
A letter was sent to the Republican Star, Butler County, Pennsylvania written from camp near Fredericksburg, Virginia on December 29, 1862. Kathleen Hutchins has a copy of this letter from "I.E. D." , who was Sergeant Isaiah E. Davis, Co. I, 105th Reg., Pa. Vol., Civil War. He was shot and killed June 19, 1864 on a Sunday afternoon at Petersburg by a sharpshooter while resting on a cot outside his tent reading his Bible.
Isaiah was buried at Petersburg, Virginia while a Grave marker was placed in the Pine Grove Cemetery, section 152, in Ridgeway, Pennsylvania.
