JOHNSON, Jr., George L. age 77, of Dayton, departed this life peacefully Monday, June 2, 2014. George L. Johnson, Jr. was the second son of Mary Dalton Johnson and George L. Johnson Sr. George graduated from Circleville High School in 1955. He completed his Bachelor's Degree in 1959 at Central State University. Where he met Odessa the love of his life and wife for fifty years. George while attending Central State University was recruited for the swim team after being observed in a swimming class. He was given an athletic scholarship. He received his first Master's Degree in 1965 from Xavier University in Cincinnati. He completed work on three more Master's Degrees while in the PH.D program at Miami University. The degrees are in the areas of Administration, Supervision of Instruction and Curriculum. He taught a course at Miami University and worked on a Counseling team at Wright State University. He was a lifelong learner. George's work experience included being a hod carrier, working on a pipeline and as a Correctional Officer in the Federal Prison System. George dedicated forty years of his life to education in the Dayton Public School System. He taught school for three years, served as a Guidance Counselor for one year and as an Assistant Principal for one year. The rest of his forty-year career was spent as an Elementary School Building Principal. He also taught swimming for many years at the Dayton Boy's Club. During his youth, George attended St. Paul's A.M.E. church in Circleville. He attended St. Margaret's Episcopal Church where he was a member for over 50 years. He has served as the Junior Warden and as a member of the Vestry, which is the governing body of the church. He was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrews men's group. He served several terms as president of the group. George was a member of the following organizations: He was a fifty-year member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Phi Delta Kappa Educational Fraternity and Civitan Service Group. He is also a thirty-second degree Mason and a Shriner. George's hobbies were church, swimming and cars. He was a Corvette enthusiast. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Dalton Johnson and George L. Johnson Sr. and his siblings Roberta and Charles. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his beloved wife of fifty years Odessa, his daughter Kellene of Westchester and son Dalton of Huntsville, Alabama his granddaughter Sterling his siblings William (Sandra) of Chillicothe, Mary Ann Anderson (Marcus) of Reynoldsburg, Rev. Michael Johnson (Carolyn) of Columbus, Marguerite Conley of Chillicothe, and Marie Ardrey of Circleville and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be held 1 pm Saturday, June 7, 2014 at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5301 Free Pike. Rev. Fr. Benjamin E.K. Speare-Hardy II officiating. Entombment Woodland Cemetery. Visitation 11 am at the church, at which time family will receive friends. Arrangements entrusted to the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brotherhood of St. Andrew at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. Condolences may be expressed at [email protected]
