Fire Captain Bob G. Gallardy, died as a result of injuries suffered during a training accident at the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy, Lewistown, Pennsylvania.
Captain Bob Gallardy was captain on Engine 311 of the Altoona Fire Department; Adjunct Instructor with the Pensylvania State Fire Academy; and an instructor with Bucks County Community College. He enjoyed working and teaching in the fire department, and instructing fire service training.
Bob was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 299; Summerhill Volunteer Fire Company, Station 86; Cambria County Volunteer Fire Association; and the Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association.
He married Vickie Wirfel August 5, 1978, in New Germany PA. He is survived by his wife, and three sons: Kyle Robert, Drew Gerard and Derek Edward.
Bob was buried from the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, PA., Monday, October 31, 2005 at a ceremony that was attended by more than 2000 in attendance. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by the International Association of Fire Fighters.
He was buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery, New Germany, PA.
