In September of 1984, in Port St. Lucie, Florida, both Jonathan Douthitt and Ramey were riding home from school when the bus they were riding in stalled on the railroad tracks. Jonathan's mother was driving the bus. All of the kids were evacuated except for Jonathan who was asleep in the back of the bus and Ramey ran back in to wake him up and get him out. Both of them then ran to the emergency door of the bus only to find that the door was padlocked. The train struck the bus and both were killed. This led to a major lawsuit against not only the school but also against the Railroad company who owned the train when it was revealed that the engineer was under the influence of marijuana. The lawsuit was settled out of court. Ramey was the daughter of movie producer Stephen Finn.
