SPAULDING - Betty Lee Williams, 77, passed on to be with her Savior Lord Jesus at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Louise Drury; her husband, Marion Eugene Williams; two brothers, Donald Ray Drury and Richard Wayne Drury; and three of her children, Larry Gene Marsh, Betty Sadie Bell Spenser and Louise Elnor Watkins.
Betty Lee is survived by two sons, Clyde Williams and his wife, Cheryl, of Fort Worth and Jimmie "Rocky" Williams and his wife, Cathy, of Montgomery, Texas; seven grandchildren, Susie Roach, Mary Williams, Jimmie Williams Jr., Justin Williams, Joshua Williams, Matthew Haynes and Jacob Haynes; nine great-grandchildren, Christina Roach, Hope Roach, Michelle Roach, D.J. Roach, Arron Williams, Robin Williams, Charles Williams, Alexander Williams and Jaylie Williams; two great-great grandchildren, Allaric Crosby and Isis Collier; two brothers, Clyde Drury and David Drury; and three sisters, Barbara Nugent, Billie Stack and Charlene Smith. She was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty Lee was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Springfield. She left at a young age and traveled throughout the U.S., returning to Springfield in the late 1950s. After marrying Eugene in 1963, they moved to Spaulding, where they raised their children. Betty was employed as a waitress for many years with the Fleetwood Restaurant and Parkview Supper Club, finally ending up her career working in retail sales. She eventually retired from Kmart in 1999 after 20 years of service.
Betty Lee had a generous heart, and she loved her family above all else. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, able to spend time with many of the little ones either as baby sitter or caretaker. Betty Lee had a passion for knitting and crocheting, often showering family and friends with her creations; she also was a blue ribbon winner in several state fairs.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, with the Rev. Casey Scott of Riverton Christian Church officiating.
Her family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Brian Byrd and the Texas Hospice nursing staff, home health aide and pastoral care staff for the loving attention given to Betty Lee during her six months of care. The staff became like an extended family, and they will never forget how much kindness they showed their mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be accepted by Texas Hospice, www.texashospice.com, in honor of Betty L. Williams.
