British clergy.

He graduated from Church of England Missionary Society (CMS) mission college at Islington, and at the end of 1870, became a propagator of the foreign mission to Hong Kong. There he was ordained, and took office as the clergyman of the St. Stephanos Church. In 1881, he went for holiday to Britain. While there, his wife died and his posting changed. On May 14, 1882, he arrived with a new wife to take his new post as propagator in Nagasaki. While posted there, he assisted Rev. H. Maundrell, implimented the Sailors' Institute (a non-alcoholic alternative to the local saloons), and taught English. He left for Fukuoka in June 1888 with his wife and family, where he served until 1910. In 1908, he was appointed Archdeacon. Hutchinson returned to Nagasaki in 1911. He died while vacationing in Karuizawa.

Son of Thomas Hutchinson, a cloth merchant.

He married (1) his first wife in Exeter. Together they were the parents of Walter Hutchinson, Campbell Hutchinson, Ann Hutchinson, Grace Hutchinson, Agnes Hutchinson, and Christine Hutchinson. His wife died in England during a holiday there.

Married (2) Elizabeth Wippell Gibbings from Bristol, who returned to Japan with him to look after his six children. Together they were the parents of an additional six children: Archibald Campbell Hutchinson, Elizabeth Hutchinson, Arthur Hutchinson, Maud Hutchinson, Constance (Hutchinson) Rolands, and Ernest Hutchinson.
