The son of Harman H. & Margaret Stallman and husband of Kate A. Stallman. In 1860, he was a carpenter living in York Borough and later worked as a printer. He stood 5' 6" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in York August 24, 1861, with Co. K, 87th Pa Inf, at the rank of private. Fell from a scaffold while building barracks and broke his right elbow. Discharged by surgeon's certificate March 27, 1863. Also served at the rank of private both as an unassigned man and with Co. C, 3rd Pa Cav, August 18, 1864 - May 28, 1865. Promoted to sergeant.
