Services will be held Saturday for Emma E. (Bookout) Moore of Shelton. She died at Mason General Hospital on November 8. She was 78.
She was born in Branson, Missouri, on April 1, 1918.
After graduating from Branson High School she went to work as a riveter. On September 1, 1943 she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps. During World War II she served in New Guinea and earned the Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with on Bronze Star. She was honorably discharged on November 29, 1944.
While in the service she met her future husband, David G. Moore. They married shortly after returning to the U.S. Mrs. Moore worked at several jobs while raising her family. She worked at a nursing home for a while and was employed for many years for the state of Washington.
She was an active member of the women's auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Degree of Honor Society and the Agate Grange.
Mrs. Moore enjoyed country living including gardening, sewing and making quilts. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter in 1953. Survivors include her son, David Moore of Shelton; her daughter-in-law, Peggy Moore of Shelton; her granddaughter, Lora Moore of Shelton; her brothers, Harvey Bookout of Kent and Ted Bookout of Branson; her sisters Marjorie Bookout of Shelton, Virginia Hartzell of Branson and Fran Wyman of Branson; and many nieces and nephews.
John Cook will officiate at memorial services scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, at the Agate Grange.
