PARENTS: Adam Holmes, and Hannah Thompson, of New Braintree, Worcester Co., MA.

WIFE: Judith Goss Walker, married Jul 06, 1789, New Braintree, Worcester Co., MA.

CHILDREN: William and Judith had at least 12 children together.

DAUGHTER: Eveline "Caroline" Holmes, wife of Hosea Tucker. Eveline & Hosea had a son named Barzillia Horatio Nelson Tucker, who married Ellen Josephine Southwick.

HEADSTONE INSCRIPTION: William Holmes, died Sept. 20, 1831, AE 75 yrs. Judith G., his wife, died JAN 24, 1858, AE 86. (There is a makers mark at the bottom of this headstone that says...Whitemill.)

MILITARY: The Following Transcription is from the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Sept. 1935, Vol. XXIII., No. 3.
Article Titled: "Lieut. Adam Holmes, Ulster Scotsman (Mass.); By J. Albert Holmes. p. 78-85."

"On the 19th of April, 1775, William Holmes marched toward Boston as one of the New Braintree, Mass., Company of Minute-men. This company had been organized for some time. He was a private in Capt. John Granger's Company of Minute-men in Col. Jonathan Warner's regiment and served in three other regiments, the last as Sergeant. Was wounded. His other service was:

'Privat, Capt. Samuel Dexter's Co., Col. Learnard's Regt.; pay abstract for mileage from home and return, dated Roxbury Camp, Jan. __, 1776; mileage (136 Miles) allowed; company raised in Hardwick, New Braintree and Oakham; also, same Co. and Regt.; company return dated Roxbury Camp, Jan. __, 1776; also Capt. Thomas Whipple's Co., Col. James Converse's (Worcester county) Regt.; service, 3 days; company marched towards Providence on an alarm in July 1777; also, Sergeant, Capt. Edward Hodge's Co., Col. Cushing's Regt.; enlisted July 27, 1777; discharged Aug. 29, 1777; service 1 mo. 7 days, at the northward, including 4 days (90 miles) travel home.'
