Killer in sensational murder case. On the night of May 8, 1967, LAPD officers from the Van Nuys Division received a call that someone had stolen some wine from Dales Market at 6821 Lennox Blvd. The thief was William McKinley Miller. Miller saw the LAPD officers and crouched behind a small wall at the Van Nuys Recreation Center at 14301 Vanowen. He aimed a 30.06 caliber rifle at Officer Roger Warren and fired several shots. Warren, who had graduated from the police academy two weeks earlier, was killed. Other officers returned fire, killing Miller. He was 16 years old. (bio by: Joe Walker)
