QUEENSBURY -- William "Bill" Ferguson died, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born in Tarrytown, N.Y., and grew up in Queensbury, and enjoyed many years at Lake George, where his family spent the summers.

He graduated from Queensbury High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy.

After his discharge from the Navy, Bill worked in construction as a stone mason, for which he was known for his fine craftsmanship and the quality of his work. In later years, he worked as a bartender in the Glens Falls area. Bill was known to his many friends as "Fergie" and they remembered his devotion to his parents, his kindness to his friends, his interest in all things and his love of conversation on a wide range of subjects.

During his long illness he commuted to the Veteran's Hospital in Albany for treatment. He never complained and brightened the lives of friends and the hospital staff with his wonderful spirit and his ability to go forward, in spite of the overwhelming medical challenges he faced everyday.

Bill was the son of the late Norman Ferguson, who was the long term manager of the Glens Falls Insurance Building, and Helen Sherman Ferguson. His mother, Helen, died in 2005 at 104 years old. He is survived by his cousin, Jean C. Hendy of Clifton Park, N.Y.

A private memorial service will be held at the Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, followed by a private interment at the Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Road, Queensbury.
