Mrs. Hazel W. Douthit, 79, 739 Fair Ave., died at Major Hospital at 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, 26 August 1971. She had been ill since March and hospitalized since Wednesday.

A lifetime resident of Shelby County, Mrs. Douthit was employed by the local Yellow Cab Co. for over 29 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Fairland Christian Church.

Born in Noble Township 11 April 1892, the daughter of George C. and Anna (Dixon) Wright, she was married to Darlie Douthit in 1914 at Madison and he died in 1936.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Verle (Rosamond) Lackey, Shelbyville, and Mrs. Kenneth (Joan) Myers, R. R. 2, Shelbyville; four sons, Robert G. Douthit, Shelbyville, Harold Douthit, Edinburg, John Douthit, St. Paul, Minn., and Duane Douthit, St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Mae Smith, Shelbyville, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A sister preceded in death.

Services were on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Murphy Mortuary. The Rev. Robert Whisler officiated and burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends called at the mortuary after 4 p.m. on Friday.
