| Birth: | Jun. 4, 1940 | | Death: | 1958 | Animal Actor. Lassie I who's real name was Pal, was trained by animal breeder Rudd Weatherwax. He obtained Pal from a friend as an owed debt. Pal went onto appear as Lassie in the film "Lassie Come Home" in 1943, and the television series, "Lassie" from 1954 to 1974. In all there have been 9 Lassies, in over 50 years, all from the same family. His son Robert continues the tradition of training the dogs.
Pal was privately buried by Rudd himself out on his ranch in a special place and he would often visit the grave. The man experienced a deep depression for months and could never watch an MGM Lassie movie again.
