Joseph R. 'Joe' Werner, 60, of York, passed away Monday, August 8, 2010, at his residence, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the husband of Elaine J. (Weigel) Werner, York, with whom he celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on May 24th.

Mr. Werner was born in York, on January 28, 1950, the son of the late C. Arthur and Mae E. (Rohrbaugh) Werner.

Joseph was employed by the former Susquehanna Communications for approximately 40 years. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the war in Vietnam. He was a 1967 graduate of Central High School and attended York College. Joe was fun loving, enjoyed the outdoors, boating, motorcycles and traveling with his family. He was a past member of the Shiloh American Legion Post 791 and the Viking Athletic Assoc.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah E. Werner; a son, Jeffrey R. Werner, both of York; a sister, Jane E. Wilt and her husband, Joseph of Dover; a brother, Danny A. Werner and his wife, Beverly of Seven Hills, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Final resting place will be in Greenmount Cemetery with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
