Craig E. Wood,of Felton, 59, known as "Woody" to many friends, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008, in the Bethany Unit of Manor Care Health Services South after a brave and courageous battle with liver cancer. He was the loving husband of Jolene M. (Olphin) Wood for 16 years.
Born April 23, 1949, in York, the son of James W. and Dorothy E. (Fehl) Wood of York, he was a 1967 graduate of Central High School. He was employed by Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, and proudly cared for "The Hahn Home" since 1996. Prior to that, he was employed by the former Red Lion Country Club, and Harold H. Hogg Construction. All his life Craig was dedicated to helping others. He recently was President of Felton Borough Council, having served on the Council for the past seven years, striving to continue to make Felton an enjoyable community in which to live. He was a member of Felton Fire Company and the Chevy Club, and had been a volunteer for North York Ambulance. He will be remembered for the help that he extended to neighbors, and the care with which he treated anyone in need. An avid hunter, he was a member of the Smullton Hunting Club in Centre County for 37 years. He had a passion for ice hockey, playing on teams that included the Ski Roundtop Hockey Team during the time that he was employed there, and coached the York Ice Hockey Youth Team. His favorite hockey team remained the Washington Capitals. Craig also enjoyed drag racing, antique cars, and collecting antiques.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three sons, Chad Wood and Anthony "Tony" Urey and his fiance, Shellie Emenheiser, of Red Lion, and B. Lynn Urey of Felton; one grandson; a sister, Roxy Maugans and her husband, Mike of Spring Grove; mother-in-law, Grace M. Olphin of Felton; and two nieces and two nephews and their families.
Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery, Windsor Township.
