Ethel Armstrong Ethel Mae Armstrong, daughter of V. W. and Delia Williamson Kearney, was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Warren County. She passed from this life on Sept. 6, 2007, at Methodist Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 94.
Ethel grew up on a farm and attended country school. She married Samuel Dale Armstrong on Dec. 23, 1931, in Bethany, Mo. This union was blessed by four children, Virginia, Dale, Ronald and Joyce. Ethel's life continued on the farm as she and Sam farmed and raised their family on a farm near Osceola.
Ethel was very family oriented. She loved time with her family and having them around. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and reading and she loved cats. She was a member of the Liberty Ladies Aid and attended the Liberty Methodist Church.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sam; son-in-law Leonard Svoboda; and three brothers, Lilbert, Frank and Harry Kearney.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Virginia Svoboda of Loveland, Colo.; son Dale Armstrong and wife Grace of Indianola, son, Ronald Armstrong and wife Ginger of Ankeny; daughter, Joyce Averill and husband John of Indianola, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 13, 2007, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. Ed Grant officiating. Vocalist Karen Linhart sang "Amazing Grace," "Beulah Land" and "It Is No Secret."
Interment was in Bethel Chapel Cemetery in Clarke County. Memorials may be directed to a favorite charity in Ethel's name.
