Keith DeWayne Napier, 54, of Waco, passed away Friday, Sept. 24, 2010. Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, at Toliver Chapel Baptist Church. Reflections of Life Service will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, at Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Doris Miller Memorial Park in Bellmead.
Keith DeWayne was born in Waco, Texas, to Walter and Henrietta Ashford Napier. Keith was educated in the Waco Public School system and was active in many civic organizations as a teenager. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who in high school, he was accomplished on the football field, and selected to the All-District, All-Region, and All-State Football teams.
He received a football scholarship to Howard University in Washington D.C. where he held the position of an offensive guard. His freshman year, Keith earned a starting position and was named first team AII-MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) an accomplishment he repeated for the next three years. The Mutual Black Network named him an All-American his junior and senior years at Howard. He was inducted into the Howard University Athletic Hall of Fame on November 2, 2007. He was initiated into the Beta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in the fall of 1976.
He announced his call to the Gospel Ministry under his current pastor, Rev. Angela Sumpter. He was currently serving on the Ministerial Staff at Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his oldest brother, Rhondal Andre' Napier.
Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Collins and wife, Cynthia, Brandon Napier, and William Napie; daughter, Gilberta Hall and husband, James; grandchildren: Kya, Malik, Dakari, Brittney, Khelsea, Jenecia, and William, II; nephews: Andre, Walter, David; Joe; Rhondal James "R.J.," and Ericq; mother, Henrietta Ashford Napier; sister, Walrietta Napier; brother, Reginald Napier and wife, Tamara;
nieces, Teresa and Venessa; special friends and beloved brothers, Ronald Keith Banner and Wayman Dever.
