Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Northwood United Methodist Church of Lafayette for Charles Dillard Granstaff, 78,
who passed away Sunday October 29, 2006 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
Reverend Wayne Howington, Pastor of Northwood United Methodist Church, Reverend Daryl Tate, and Reverend Robert Deich will conduct the funeral services.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Interment will take place in Shooks Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Texas.
Mr. Granstaff was the son of the late Charlie D. Granstaff and the former Saline Grigsby.
He graduated from Garland High School in Garland, Texas where in 2003 he was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame. He served in the United States Navy and accompanied Admiral Byrd on his last expedition to the Antarctic. He graduated from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Mr. Granstaff worked in the oil service industry in Lafayette since 1963 eventually owning and operating several service companies. He retired to Sulphur Springs, Texas in 2001 where he founded Stargate Farm specializing in the growing of hybrid hay. He was a charter member of Northwood Methodist Church in Lafayette. Through the years he served as Chairman of the Board, Financial Chairman, Chairman of the Building Committee, and served as District Financial Chairman for a number of years. He was placed on the board as honorary member for life. He and his wife were married for 57 years. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Helsley Granstaff of Sulphur Springs, Texas; one daughter, Carol Granstaff Thornton and husband, William R. Thornton of Lafayette; two sons, Michael Granstaff of Lafayette, and Danny Granstaff of Sulphur Springs, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kanon Granstaff, Joseph Peel, Kristen Thornton Savage, Kathleen Thornton, Danielle Granstaff Pagitt, Blane Granstaff, and Laura Comeaux; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Nannie Lafon. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters, Emma Smith, Bertha Williamson, Willie McGee, and Lora Plumlee. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Northwood United Methodist Church, 4530 Moss Street, Lafayette. Pallbearers will include Bobby Beaumont, Tom Barrios, Don Cross, James Marks, Nathan Payne, and Charles Foreman.
