Thomas J. Heatherly, 75, of 62 Magaw Ave., Carlisle, formally of Stratford, Conn., died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997 in Cumberland Crossings Retirement Center, South Middleton Township.
Born Oct. 23, 1921 in Hoboken, N.J., he is the son of the late Joseph A. and Anna V. McVicar Heatherly.
A 1939 graduate of St. Michael's High School in Union City, N.J., he was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Stratford and had attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlisle.
He retired after 40 years of service with Sikorsky Aircraft division of United Technology Corp. in Stratford as foreman of quality assurance. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II with the rank of technical sergeant and held numerous medals for his military service. He was a member of VFW Post 8851 in Boiling Springs.
Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Hubertha A. Hardenberg Heatherly; a son, Peter W. of Lebanon, Conn.; two daughters, Catherine H. Dembowski of Boiling Springs and Patricia H. Lea of Bristol, Vt.; four brothers, Joseph T., William and James of Phoenix, Ariz. and John of New Jersey; three sisters, Rosemary Kinlin of Demarest, N.J., Catherine Tyndel of Florida and Ann Philips of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Township.
