Jacob served in the 33rd Ohio in the Civil War. He was apparently murdered for revenge of some sort. Late at night, an assassin exploded dynamite under Jacob's house. When Jacob came out to investigate, the man shot him with buckshot. After three years at large, the murderer was apprehended and sent to the Ohio penitentiary for life.
