Lamira Hendly Sullivan, 102, died on November 18, 2011 at her home in Greenville, South Carolina. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 27, 1908 to the late John C. Henley, Jr. and Lamira Parker Henley. She graduated from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland in 1930.
Lamira first visited Highlands in 1924 with her parents who purchased property and a home that year on Kettle Rock Mountain. Until recently, she spent every summer in Highlands where she met her husband Claude T. Sullivan of Anderson, South Carolina. His family had a summer home on Fifth Street. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands where she played the piano for summer church services until the church acquired an organ.
Survivors include her daughter, Lamira S. Fondren of Greenville, SC and her son, Claude T. Sullivan, Jr. of Atlanta, her much loved and enjoyed four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on November 20, 2011 at Highlands Memorial Park.
