Marvin James Daniel, 88, son of Walter and Treacy Hays Daniel, was born Nov. 5, 1914, near Houston. He died March 12, 2003, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.
During Mr. Daniel's childhood, his family often returned to Iowa for farm work. He attended Indian Creek and Houston schools.
He married Mildred McNew Sept. 12, 1934. During the first six years of their marriage, they worked on various farms. They purchased the land that was to be their own farm, where they raised their five children.
Mr. Daniel worked for 22 years for Lincoln Mercury Automotive in St. Louis, driving home to spend the weekend with his family. He retired in 1974.
After raising their family, the Daniels traveled extensively, visiting both Alaska and Hawaii.
He was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church, attending faithfully as long as his health permitted.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Virgia Waterman, Doris Green and Ruby, who died in infancy; and three brothers, Loys, Chester and Lee.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Delores Nevarez of Oceanside, Calif., and Marilyn Back of Cedar Park, Texas; three sons, Dean of Simmons, Jerry of Columbia and Roy of Houston; one sister, Marie Landsaw of Cabool; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were March 15 at the Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Hamilton and Harold Bruening officiating. Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
