Stephen Shoemaker born 1789 in Fayette Co., PA to John Shoemaker and Catherine Hoover. His parents brought the family to Beckinridge Co., KY in 1800 and settled on Sinking Creek. Stephen was Justice of the Peace in 1820, elected associate Judge in 1823, He was in the War of 1812 serving from Sept. 13, 1812 to Sept. 24, 1812 as a Private in Co. 3 Reg. (Allen's) Mounted KY. Vol. He married Elizabeth Taylor July 28, 1816 in Perry Co., IN. Stephen and Elizabeth had 10 children; Rachel I., Nancy, John Hoover, Elizabeth Louisa, George W., Jacob, William, Maria, Harriet R. and Isaac. He was 50 years old at death and referred to as Judge Stephen Shoemaker. He and his brother John Jr. were "The Carpenter Brothers" of Rome, Perry Co., IN. Stephen and Elizabeth are buried in the "Old Shoemaker Cemetery, Hardingrove, about 4 miles west of Rome, IN on Highway 66. Land now known as the Old Seifert farm.
