'HENRY JAQUES, born May 9, 1842, in Williams Co., Ohio, was a son of Abraham and Anna (Frankauser) Jaques, both deceased. July 4, 1867, he was married in Williams Co., Ohio, to Lucinda Shafer, born in Williams Co., March 19, 1842; her parents, Amasa and Elizabeth (Hill) Shafer, are both dead. To this union three children have been born, Lyle E., who is a member of the S. of V.'s, Lulu E., and Alzie, deceased. Mr. Jaques enlisted at the age of 19, Aug. 26, 1861, in Williams Co., O., as a private in Co. A, 38th O.V.I., 3d Brig., 3d Div., 14th A.C. Sept. 25, 1863, he received a gunshot wound in right thigh at Chattanooga, for which he was in hospital at Chattanooga, Jeffersonville and Camp Dennison. Mr. Jaques never missed a day's duty from to time of his enlistment until he received his wound. While in hospital he received a thirty days' furlough. In 1862, his company was detailed to act as body guard to Gen. Thomas for six months; he took part in the battles of Stone River, Chattanooga and all of the engagements of his regiment, and was honorably discharged May 28, 1864, from hospital at Camp Dennison; he had two brothers in the late war, Amos C. and Frederick A.; his wife's grandfather was in the war of 1812. Comrade Jaques draws a pension, is engaged in farming, and his address is Melbern, Ohio.'
