Kenneth D. Dunlap, Sr., 87, of Calvary Fellowship Homes, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, February 6, 2011. He was born in Lancaster on January 10, 1924, son of the late William G., Jr. and Myrtle A. (Clark) Dunlap. He was the husband of the late Lois (Gast) Dunlap who passed away in 2004. They were married for 58 years.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife, M. Elaine (Warner) Dunlap, are his children: Dr. Kenneth D. Dunlap, Jr. and his wife Ruthie Dunlap, Dover, PA; Gail Dawn Dunlap, Lancaster and the late Timothy D. Dunlap. Three grandchildren: Kenneth G. Dunlap, Adrienne (Dunlap) Dashnaw and Claudine (Dunlap) Arnold. Five great-grandchildren: Ryan, Mikala, Charlie, Josh and Raychel.
Ken was a 1941 graduate of JP McCaskey High School with the Vocational Auto Mechanics Program. He drove heavy equipment, tractor trailers for Penn Dairies delivering to branch plants.
He proudly served his country during WWII. He went through Midland Radio and Television School in Kansas City, MO and maintained all radio gear on B-24's and C-47's while attached to the 10th Air Force (China, Burma, India) from 1943 to 1945. He also served in the US Naval Reserve from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.
Ken retired from RCA after 36 years of service as an Engineering Technician. He served as President of Penn Manor School Board for 9 years and President of the Board of Lancaster County Vocational Technical School. He received a BS in Bible from the Lancaster Bible College in 1978. He was a member of Calvary Church, Lancaster serving faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher of both youth and adults as well as various other ministries. He will be remembered and loved for his study of God's Word and ability to teach and share it faithfully; a fruitful ministry of visitation, counseling and prayer.
The Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Fellowship Homes, 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor David D. Allen, Jr., officiating. Interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery with Military Honors being accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at Calvary Homes from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: Calvary Fellowship Homes, Benevolent Fund or to Lancaster Bible College Scholarshare Fund, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
