Albert E. Fournier, 90, a resdent of Munroe Street in Livermore Falls, died Wednesday, July 9, at Sandy River Nursing Home where he had been a patient for one month. He had previously resided at Victorian Villa Nursing Home in Livermore Falls.
He was born in Jay on Sept. 26, 1912, one of 10 children born to Xavier and Celestine Roy Fournier. He attended parochial grammar school and in his teen years attended the Catholic Seminary In Massachusetts.
Due to the illness of his mother, he returned home and graduated from Jay High School. Following graduation, Mr. Fournier went to work for International Paper Co. in Jay.
His career in the mill was interrupted while he proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a sergeant. He returned to the mill after the war and retired at the age of 66 with 44 years of service.
Mr. Fournier was well known for his baking abilities. He made many family wedding cakes and had created a cake replica of the St. Rose of Lima Church which was displayed at Dupont's Hardward in Jay. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay and was a very active member of the VFW, Frank L. Mitchell Post 3335 of Jay and the Knights of Columbus, Council 320.
He was the organizer of his military squadron's reunion time after time in all areas of the United States. He will be remembered as a very dependable person to his family, friends and community.
For many of Mr. Fournier's retirement years he wintered in Florida and made annual trips to Canada.
He is survived bty a sister, Mrs. Mary Anne Roy of Jay; a brother, Arthur L. Fournier of Livermore Falls; he will be missed by 15 nieces, nephews and their spouses and many cousins who loved him dearly.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Ida Muse, Irene Paquin, Alma Jolicoeur, Leonie Deshaies, Ora Griffin; and his brothers, Freddie and Ovila Fournier
