USAF Ret. Maj. Edwin Morrow Eversole, 84, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2000. Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothea R. Eversole; children, Carole (Stephen) Yates, Joseph Eversole, Mary (James) Webb, Amy (Walter) Rye, Gina (James) Wempe, John (April) Eversole, Edwin (Christie) Eversole and Christopher Eversole.

Preceded in death by his beloved children, Russell Eversole and Susan Eversole Figueroa. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Bensko, Ann Tucker; son-in-law, Eric Figueroa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Major Eversole was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren.

Born Sept. 30, 1915, in Hazard, Ky. Major Eversole was descended from a long line of patriots serving our country since its founding. Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Civil War family veterans called to serve, established an ethic of freedom and ideals that inspired his own life as a soldier. Major Eversole honorably served our country as a pilot and bomb wing commander in the Army Air Corps and the USAF. Rated to fly numerous aircraft, he flew B-24, B-29 and B-36 aircraft in over 97 combat missions and sorties during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theater of War and the Korean Conflict. He retired as Headquarters Squadron Commander, Strategic Air Command at Westover AFB, Massachusetts, in 1957.

Following his military service, Major Eversole was employed at the CF&I in the electrical department until his retirement in 1980.

Major Eversole will lie in state at George McCarthy Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 11, 1-8 p.m. Rosary and Mass services will be held at St. Patrick's Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by interment at Roselawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the World War II Veterans Memorial Fund in his memory.

I never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I'm your niece, the youngest of Arthur Webster Eversole. He died when I was young but I remember him speaking so well of you.
