Funeral Services for Louis A. Boise will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Louis died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005 at his home.
Louis was born Feb. 28, 1918 in Grand Rapids, N.D. to Earl and Grace Boise. He was raised and educated in LaMoure, N.D. In 1936 his family moved to Oregon and settled in Astoria. In January 1937 Louis enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a radio operator and was stationed at Hamilton Field, Calif. Later he was transferred to Ft. Douglas, Wash. In November 1941 he was shipped out to the Philippines Islands, however enroute, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and his ship was rerouted to Australia. For two years he served with the Air Corps in Java and other Islands in the South Pacific. In 1943 he was sent to Bisbane, Australia to Officer Training School. After graduation he served in New Guinea with the 22nd Troop Carrier Squadron, until 1945 when he was rotated back to the United States.
After corresponding with Geraldine "Gerry" Brandon for two years, they finally met, and were married on June 2, 1945 in Hollywood, Calif. He was assigned to the Los Angeles Radar Control Group until his discharge with the rank of Captain. In December 1945 he reenlisted with the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in several U.S. Air Force assignments including six months in Japan during the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force in 1960 with the rank of Major. In 1960 he moved to Chico. In 1961 he went to work at Chico State University in their shipping department. In 1974 he fully retired.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gerry; a daughter, Carolyn and her husband Hal Williamson; a son, Gary and his wife, Donna; two grandchildren, Kim and Jeremy and three great-grandchildren, Sarah Ann, Benjamin Louis and Emily Lauren.
