Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Nuara moved to Middletown, New York in 1972, before settling in Eltingville in 1975.
Mr. Nuara was a technician for Xerox Corp. in Manhattan for thirty-one years.
He attended the former New York City Community College in Brooklyn.
His passion in life was building model trains. He picked up the hobby during his childhood, and it was influential in his decision to enter the field of electronics.
Mr. Nuara served in the National Guard from 1969 to 1974, stationed in the Kingsbridge Armory in The Bronx. He achieved the rank of sergeant.
According to family members, Mr. Nuara was known for giving of himself to others during times of need.
"He was a loving husband, a tremendous father, a good friend, and a wonderful man, in the sense that he gave of himself to everyone," said his wife of twenty-eight years, the former Patricia Breslin. "He will always be part of us. We will miss him, and we'll always love him."
In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Joseph F. Jr. and John; his parents, Frank and Jean; and a sister, Deborah Tucker.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Eltingville, with a Mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Pleasant Plains.
